One of the paddlers, Joe McNamara, said they were all triathletes who decided they needed a new challenge. Rather than swim, cycle or run, they settled on sea kayaking. And crossing Bass Strait became the ambitious target. “It’s probably the most iconic stretch of open water that us Aussies know about,” McNamara said. “It’s got a bit of a reputation for being dangerous.
