The Rev. Bronwen Boswell, Acting Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), has named Ruling Elder Kate Trigger Duffert as director of General Assembly planning for the Office of the General Assembly. Trigger Duffert is no stranger to the workings of OGA and GA planning, having worked in the agency for four years. Her appointment comes at a critical time as the agency is now planning its third historic assembly that will include online committee meetings followed by in person plenaries in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2024.

For Kate Trigger Duffert, working for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is something that comes naturally. A lifelong Presbyterian, she has been involved in working on behalf of the church since she was a child. Now, as manager for General Assembly Business and Per Capita Promotions in the Office of the General Assembly, Trigger Duffert works to ensure the business of the church moves forward.

This spring, an amendment to the Book of Order’s section G-2.0804 (TERMS OF CALL) was ratified by the presbyteries. The historic vote mandating a minimum of 12 weeks of paid family leave for called and installed pastors at congregations is the culmination of a six-year story of General Assembly process, but also of grassroots church advocacy.

A busy week lies ahead for the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly as it begins its spring meeting at the Presbyterian Center in Louisville. In addition to COGA, the boards of the Presbyterian Historical Society and Presbyterian Mission Agency are also meeting in person at the Center this week. This will be the first time since early 2020 that the agencies’ committees and boards have met together in person.
