Grand Lake's East Troublesome exhibit captures tragedy, resiliency


Visitors of the Troublesome Stories exhibit look at the photography of Thomas Cooper, a photojournalist who captured the East Troublesome Fire. Cooper s work is featured prominently at the exhibit and prints can be purchased with 20% of the proceeds going to a recovery fund.

Items featured in the exhibit were donated by locals who lost their homes or businesses. The East Troublesome destroyed over 500 buildings, with over 350 of them being primary residences.

GRAND LAKE, Colo. — An exhibit in Grand Lake will help visitors understand the impact of the East Troublesome Fire while protecting residents from reliving the harrowing disaster.
The exhibit, called Troublesome Stores: Art & Artifacts From The East Troublesome Fire, will include 40 powerful images of the fire alongside text of residents’ stories and artifacts recovered from the ashes.
The East Troublesome Fire blew up in size on Oct. 21, 2020 and winds pushed the flames at a breakneck speed — about 6,000 acres per hour — across the landscape, giving most Grand Lake residents a mere 12 minutes to evacuate. In ....
