US, UK, Australia, Canada jointly condemn mass arrests of politicians in Hong Kong

Washington [US], January 10 (ANI): US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, along with foreign ministers of Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom on Saturday (local time) expressed serious concern on the mass arrests of 55 politicians and activists in Hong Kong, and called on Chinese authorities to respect the legal rights and freedoms of people in the region.

Australia condemns Hong Kong arrests of pro-democracy activists

Australia, the United States, Canada and Britain have condemned the arrest of more than 50 pro-democracy politicians and activists in Hong Kong. Hong Kong police detained 55 people during raids last week, the largest action taken against demonstrators since Chinese imposed national security laws came into effect. Foreign Ministers from the four nations have released a joint statement labeling those laws as a "breach of the Sino-British Joint Declaration" which undermines the One Country, Two Systems' model.
