The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) answered longstanding calls by environmental groups and landowners to "modernize" certain aspects of the certification and approval process for natural gas infrastructure projects when a divided FERC issued an update to its Certificate Policy Statement for the first time since 1999. FERC concurrently released interim policy guidance on how it will evaluate greenhouse gas emissions and climate change impacts related to proposed natural gas infrastructure.
