SEOUL South Korea s top court upheld a 20-year prison sentence on former President Park Geun-hye Thursday in a retrial of the corruption scandal that led to the impeachment of the former head of state.
The Supreme Court sentenced Park to 15 years in prison for bribery and another five years for other charges with a fine of 18 billion won (16.4 million US dollars) and a forfeit of 3.5 billion won (3.2 million US dollars), upholding the high court s ruling in July last year. ....

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday upheld acquittal of Adviser to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan and retired Justice Riaz Kiani in the Nandipur power plant corruption reference.
A two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah, dismissed the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) appeals challenging an accountability court’s June 25, 2019 verdict of acquitting them in the case, a private news channel reported.
The bench set aside the trial court’s verdict that dismissed an acquittal plea of former law secretary Masood Chishti, who is named as accused in the case, and exonerated him from all charges. ....

China Patent Office upholds the validity of REC Group s patent against Hanwha Q Cells
TUAS, Singapore, Jan. 12, 2021 /PRNewswire/ REC Group, an international pioneering solar energy company headquartered in Norway, confirms that the China Patent Office has upheld the validity of REC s award-winning split cell and junction box technology patent. This specific technology, developed in-house, is a key feature of REC Group s advanced solar panels, manufactured in REC s advanced production site in Singapore.
To protect its intellectual property, REC Group filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Hanwha Q Cells (Qidong) Co., Ltd. (part of Hanwha Q Cells) in February 2020. The China Patent Office s decision, announced on January 4, 2021, follows Hanwha Q Cells request, made in May 2020, to challenge the validity of REC s patent.
