The Absaroka volcanoes run 165 miles across the eastern range of the Yellowstone national park and are much bigger than Yellowstone itself. The USGS revealed Absaroka volcanoes cover 29,000 kilometres cubed, while Yellowstone Plateau covers just 4,600 km cubed. It was not until the 1950s experts first noticed the range was not part of Yellowstone, even though they predate the caldera by 50 million years.
