The mega Kumbh Mela at Haridwar will continue till April 30 and there has been no discussion to close it early on account of surging Covid infections, officials said today as they denied any move to wrap up the event two weeks early. The Kumbh Mela used to begin in January, but looking at the Covid situation, the state government decided to start it in April this time. The centre s SOP said because of the situation, the duration would be reduced. I have no information of it being curtailed, said Deepak Rawat, District Magistrate, Haridwar, and Kumbh Mela officer.

A negative RT-PCR test report not older than 72 hours before arrival has been made mandatory for devotees gathering for the Kumbh. The Kumbh Mela formally began in Haridwar on Thursday with several restrictions imposed on devotees coming to attend the event amid rising cases of Covid-19 in various states including Uttarakhand.

The Uttarakhand government has decided to limit the Kumbh this year for 30 days.
The government will issue a notice in this regard by the end of March stating that Kumbh will be held from April 1 to April 30.
Dehradun (Uttarakhand): Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Uttarakhand government has decided to limit the Kumbh Mela 2021 for 30 just days.
According to Chief Secretary Om Prakash, the state government took the decision to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection. A notice wil be issued in this regard by the end of March stating that
Kumbh Mela 2021 will be held for just 30 days beginning April 1 to April 30.

Uttarakhand govt issues guidelines for Kumbh Mela
Uttarakhand government on Monday issued Covid-19 guidelines for devotees visiting Haridwar s Kumbh Mela. According to the statement, devotees to be allowed at Kumbh Mela only after producing COVID negative RT-PCR report, issued not later than 72 hrs.
Besides, they ll also have to download the Aarogya Setu app.Â
Meanwhile, the authorities said that people over 65 yrs of age, the ailing, pregnant women, children below 10 years of age advised not to come.
Earlier on Sunday, the state government had made it mandatory for the attendees to obtain a medical certificate to be able to participate in the event.Â
