Anti-abortion activists incredulous about defeat of a Kansas constitutional amendment dropped plans for a statewide recount of votes by earmarking $119,600 for a ballot-by-ballot review in populous Sedgwick, Johnson, Shawnee and Douglas counties and 5 others.
Johnson County will be one of nine Kansas counties to hand recount votes cast in the Value Them Both constitutional amendment.
Anti-abortion activists failed to raise the money necessary for a statewide recount of the Aug. 2 abortion amendment, which was overwhelmingly rejected by voters. But they did gather enough funds to conduct a ballot-by-ballot review in Johnson, Shawnee, Douglas and six other populous counties.
