Nine candidates are challenging Republican incumbents

In the District 19 race for Sangamon County Board, Democrat incumbent Vera Small will take on Republican challenger Alice Ramey.

City of Springfield The Springfield City Council rejected the mayor’s nominee to fill the Ward 3 vacancy on the council, despite support from faith and community leaders. Some council members were concerned Roy Williams, Jr., the mayor’s choice, declined to say if he’d run for election in two years. Roy Williams Jr., a community organizer and Army veteran, has been named the replacement for Sen. Doris Turner, D-Springfield, on the Springfield City Council. Mayor Jim Langfelder announced Friday that Williams had beaten out eight others to serve the final two years of Turner's term.
