Special to the OBSERVER Beatrice Price and her brother, Leon, died of COVID-19 within less than two weeks of each other. High school students in northern Chautauqua County and Gowanda High School who are considering employment in education or a closely related field can now apply for two new scholarships that are being offered in honor of Beatrice and Leon Price, respectively, both Dunkirk residents who recently died as a result of COVID-19. Applicants must be in the upper third of their graduating class and submit the application to the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation by May 17. Mar 13, 2021 The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation is accepting applications from students both recent graduates and nontraditional students for the Dr. Raja S. Gopalan Registered Nursing Scholarship and the Chautauqua County Home Auxiliary Scholarship. Dr. Raja S. Gopalan established his Registered Nursing Scholarship at the foundation in 2011. Brooks Memorial Hospital and TLC Health Network employees pursuing a registered nursing degree are eligible for this award. Family members may also apply. Students have until April 1, 2021, to submit applications to human resources officials at Brooks Memorial Hospital or TLC Health Network. Students currently enrolled in the following schools are eligible: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua Lake, Dunkirk, Forestville, Fredonia, Pine Valley, Silver Creek, Westfield, and BOCES. Graduating seniors interested in pursuing an education in the trades or manufacturing technology, such as an electrician, HVAC, pipefitter, machinist, maintenance, auto technology, and auto body, are encouraged to apply. Feb 14, 2021 The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation is pleased to announce that it is taking scholarship applications for the Terence J. Centner Agricultural and Environmental 4-H Scholarship. Terence (Terry) J. Centner established this fund to honor his parents Harry E. and Mary Ellen Centner, in honor of their dedication to the Chautauqua County 4-H program. Each year, a scholarship is awarded to a high school senior attending a 4-year college or university and has completed an outstanding agricultural or environmental 4-H project. Graduating seniors from Brocton, Dunkirk, Forestville, Fredonia, Ripley, Silver Creek and Westfield are encouraged to apply.
