The Nutcracker with the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra Saturday, December 19 and Friday, December 25, 7 p.m., and Friday, December 26, 3:30 p.m. My family and I have watched The Nutcracker every year since I was little. Although we can’t watch it in the theater this year, we can still see the Hawaiʻi Ballet and Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra come together for a new televised version of the much-loved story. The special will include scenes from past performances as well as narration from actress and former professional ballet dancer Amanda Schull, a Punahou alum, plus appearances from local celebrities and other surprises. ....

Fans of MW Restaurant have two more weeks to order takeout. The popular eatery by the husband-wife team of Michelle Karr-Ueoka and Wade Ueoka is closing at the end of the year and reopening in the Symphony Honolulu building in early 2021.
The one-month closure aside, the move looks like a win. MW’s new home will be in the glass-fronted Viaggio spot on the second floor of Symphony, roughly four blocks down Kapʻiolani Boulevard from its current home. Downstairs, the couple plan to resurrect Artizen, the casual downtown café they closed in late summer. There was some urgency here: The lease for MW, which opened seven years ago in the former KGMB-TV building, is expiring. And paying a fixed rent when the fine-dining eatery had switched to an all-takeout pandemic ....
