My dad’s a livestock agent, so we lived in South Canterbury, Southland and North Canterbury. In every property my parents would plant things, put things in pots, they always had vege gardens. Mum had these beautiful, white, highly perfumed roses – Margaret Merrils – and she’d always pull them up, wrap them in newspaper and transplant them to a new garden. ....
