Legal experts have warned of a crisis in the Judiciary following the decision by a Meru court to suspend Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.
High Court Judge Patrick Otieno’s shock ruling on Friday following a petition by a Meru resident, however, won praise from other quarters. They argue that the judge was right to order Justice Mwilu to step aside until she clears her name over allegations of misconduct and abuse of office.
Justice Otieno ordered Mwilu to step aside from occupying the DCJ office, sitting as a Supreme Court judge, sitting as a member of the Judicial Service Commission and holding the position of Judiciary Ombudsperson pending determination of the suit filed by Isaiah Mwongela.

Exiled Kenyan-Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna has been adviced to come back home so that the citizens of Nairobi elect him as their governor after he declared interest following the impeachment of Mike Sonko.
Miguna said he will contest in the expected mid-February Nairobi gubernatorial by-election.

In a series of tweets, Miguna said he has decided to run in the upcoming mini poll after getting legal advice from Waikwa Wanyoike, a constitutional lawyer and co-founder of Katiba Institute.
“Having received competent legal advice from @waikwawanyoike on Dec. 19, 2020, I, Miguna Miguna, a Kenyan citizen by birth and registered voter in Nairobi, hereby declare my candidature for the position of Governor of Nairobi in the upcoming by-election. Volunteers are welcomed,” Miguna wrote on Twitter.

The Matatu and Boda Boda Operators Federation on Sunday, December 20, fronted a candidate for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat following the ouster of Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
Speaking during a press conference, the federation stated that they were supporting Agnes Kagure for the governorship post.
They indicated that Kagure was better placed to champion the interest of the vulnerable groups in the County.

Exiled constitutional lawyer Miguna Miguna on Saturday, December 19, expressed his interest in vying for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat following the ouster of Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
In a statement, Miguna indicated that he had consulted constitutional lawyers on whether he stood a chance to vie for office while outside the country.
"Given the president's refusal to allow me entry to Kenya in violation of many court orders, doesn't the Constitution grant me the right to vie for public office from exile?" he posed to the lawyers.
