Public Health Officials Confirm Walker County’s 1st 2021 Animal Rabies Case

A skunk has tested positive for animal rabies in Walker County, and public health officials are reminding residents about the potential dangers of rabies and urging them to make sure their pets are vaccinated against the potentially deadly disease. This is the first confirmed animal rabies case in Walker County for 2021 and the first since 2014.
While confirmed cases are relatively rare, officials emphasize animal rabies can be found throughout Walker County.“Rabies is always circulating in our wild animal population,” said the Walker County Health Department’s Environmental Health Manager Jason Osgatharp. ....

Walker County Has New COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline

There is a new number for Walker County residents to call to submit their information to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
 
Beginning Monday, the Walker County COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline, 706-670-1234, will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
 
Through a partnership with the Walker County Health Department, the new hotline will serve as ground zero for eligible residents to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine, which remains in extremely short supply.
Currently in Georgia, the vaccine is only available to healthcare workers, first responders, long-term care residents and adults 65+ and their caregivers. ....

Catoosa County Health Department Suspends COVID-19 Testing To Provide COVID-19 Vaccinations

The Catoosa County Health Department, an affiliate of the Georgia Department of Public Health, announced the suspension of its drive-through COVID-19 testing program so that resources can be committed to scheduling, preparing and providing COVID-19 vaccinations.
Currently, Catoosa County residents aged 65 and over, medical providers and first responders can schedule vaccine appointments by calling 706-406-2000 and selecting menu option #2. Medical providers and first responders only can sign up online at www.nwgapublichealth.org.
Plans are to begin providing COVID-19 vaccines by appointment only on Tuesday at the Catoosa County Health Department, 145 Catoosa Circle in Ringgold. Vaccinations for other age groups and populations will be available as soon as vaccine supplies increase and as immunization eligibility requi ....
