Our Mission WHQR Public Media's mission is to offer news, music, entertainment and interaction to expand knowledge, encourage artistic appreciation, engage our community and promote civil discourse. Our History WHQR Public Radio set up shop in 1984, in a converted bar in a strip mall in Wilmington. Founded by opera lovers concerned about the disappearance of the Metropolitan Opera on local airways, the station thrived by truly becoming a community station, supported and staffed by public radio lovers.
