The snowpack in the Southern Sierras is now at 257 percent of the average level for March 12.
The Sierra snowpack has reached nearly 250 percent of the average for this time of year.
The state's reservoirs and groundwater levels may not completely recover despite the recent rainfall, and water shortages could result.
"It's a huge problem," hydrogeologist Rich Pauloo told Newsweek, "we'll run out of groundwater in 100-400 years at business as usual rate."
