On a normal day his engineering workshop can get stuffy, but during weeks like this it “feels like an oven” with temperatures reaching over 40. The heat combined with their mandatory head-to-toe protective gear means it’s often unbearable, he said. “I’ve been in my overalls sweating away every day this week,” Van der Valk said. “That first week back before Christmas was a scorcher, but this week has been really bad too.” While the company tries to keep their staff comfortable, he said there’s only so much they can do. ....
