Daughters of the American Revolution
Regent Robbin Christman reported 95 wreaths were sponsored for Wreaths Across American by the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which met Jan. 9 via zoom. She suggested the club continue the project another year, and asked for suggestions for other programs to support veterans.
Cheryl Abernathy reported OneEighty, a women’s and children shelter, received the My Bag items and bags for children who are taken in. Since this is a continuous project, DAR members will continue to collect personal items and bags until OneEighty indicates it needs more. Suggested items to collect are stuffed animals, puzzles, books, activity books and toys. ....

COVID-19's lasting impact on Wayne and Holmes counties in 2020

A little more than 5% of Wayne County residents tested positive for COVID-19 in 2020. The percentage was slightly less in Holmes County. The virus may have spared most of the population but its impact left everyone scrambling.
Gov. Mike DeWine acted earlier than most leaders across the United States to prevent a surge of COVID-19 patients from flooding the state’s hospitals. The Ohio Department of Health issued months-long stay-at-home orders forcing nursing homes to lock down, schools to close, and restaurants to transition to carryout or delivery service only.
Manufacturers changed their productions to make personal protective equipment. Many small businesses closed shop, some permanently, and community celebrations were canceled left and right. ....
