The Environment Agency has issued an amber flood alert for the River Weaver catchment, including the Weaver Navigation through Winsford, due to rising river levels at Hayhurst Bridge in Northwich. WINSFORD Marina has flooded as Storm Christoph continues to cause havoc. Flood warnings are still in place for properties along New Road, the Red Lion pub and Lakeside Caravan Park. The Environment Agency is warning residents and businesses beside the Weaver Navigation to take immediate action as the storm continues to batter the north west. Prolonged and heavy rain is causing severe traffic disruption. The three-month project, which is being carried out by Canal and River Trust, involves major work to upgrade the ‘smaller’ lock at historic Hunt’s Lock – replacing the two 11 tonne lower gates and re-planking the upper gates with oak.
