Head of the piano department and long-time faculty member Boris Berman will perform the second concert of the Horowitz Piano Series on Wednesday evening.
The News looked into the Horowitz Piano Series, from its inception to Vladimir Horowitz’s relationship with Yale, and offers a preview of the 2023-2024 season.
During his first Convocation as the Henry and Lucy Moses Dean of the Yale School of Music, José García-León told each member of the incoming class, “You are a member of one of the most prestigious music programs in the world, of a school with an incredible history of training musicians at the highest level. I encourage you to pause and reflect on all you have accomplished already, all that has brought you to this moment.”
The School’s distinguished piano faculty often serve as jurors for competitions around the world at which younger musicians seek to establish themselves and boost ascendant careers. For the competitors, the events offer opportunities to showcase their artistry and meet peers and those who might have the influence to engage them for future performances.
