In breakthrough research, a team consisting of biologists from the US and China developed a human-monkey hybrid in laboratory settings. For this purpose, scientists injected human stem cells in embryos in Macaques monkeys and then observed them for 20 days, before all of them got destroyed on their own. ....

Human-monkey chimeric embryos surviving up to 20 days created

An international team of scientists based in China and the United States has successfully grown human-monkey chimeric embryos for up to 20 days, a world first, pushing the boundaries of both science and ethics simultaneously.
The research was led by gene expression expert Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte from the Salk Institute in California who, along with his team, implanted human stem cells into primate embryos which then grew for up to up to 20 days.
While the ethics of such research will be hotly debated for years to come, the potential benefits with regards to unlocking the remaining secrets of developmental biology and evolution, as well as for the development of new models of human biology and disease, proved significant enough to warrant the risk. ....

Scientists have created human-cross-monkey embryos in a US laboratory in controversial research aimed at developing new treatments for human diseases.
Researchers at the Salk Institute for Biological Sciences in California injected human stem cells into over 100 macaques embryos - a species of monkey found throughout Asia and northern Africa.
They then examined them under microscope for 20 days to see how they would develop.

After just one day, human cells had combined with 132 of the macaques embryos and after 10 days, 103 were still developing.
