It was an entire week of drama for the Western Heights school district. The state Board of Education has taken over operations for the district and named an interim superintendent. But the district defied the state’s authority by naming its own superintendent Thursday evening. Today, state education officials and the state auditor met with both superintendents. Sources told KOCO 5 that the meeting was productive and successful. The state’s appointed superintendent, Monty Guthrie, met with the Western Heights-appointed superintendent, Kim Race.Also, state Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd met with state Department of Education counsel Brad Clark and Guthrie. Byrd said they informed Western Heights about a list of documents they will need for their audit. Citizens requested the audit – more than 900 of them.
