Despite a council vote not granting them a bylaw exemption earlier this year, the reptile zoo Reptilia has opened its doors to the public.
Bane the Burmese python may be the first exotic animal to slither around city hall’s Animal Control By-law. Reptilia could open its soon-to-be-completed indoor zoo facility with native species, but had requested an exemption to the municipal by-law prohibiting the display of exotic species.
Entertainment company Reptilia says it will go ahead and open at Westmount Commons, in spite of a decision by London city council that slammed the door shut on the operation.
Exotic animals won’t be coming to a zoo in London any time soon.
