Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and other city leaders called for an end to violence and property destruction on Monday, March 15, after a group damaged businesses in the Pearl District on Friday night.
They re not going to get away with it, Wheeler said.
Elected officials and community leaders joined Wheeler in the call for peace during an online press conference on Monday. They included former Portland Trail Blazer Terry Porter, former State Sen. We previously reported on how Antifa attacked the federal courthouse in Portland, both during the day and then going back later in the evening, setting it on fire, smashing the windows, throwing things at officers and covering it with graffiti again, including a message saying, “We will destroy you.”
One of the main reasons that the Antifa rioters went after the federal courthouse on Thursday was because the protective fencing had just been taken down by the Federal Protective Service that morning after pressure from the local authorities to return to “normal.” How’d that work out? Obviously not a smart move after almost daily attacks for months. Meanwhile, there’s still fencing up at the Capitol in D.C. for a three-hour riot in January. Plus National Guard that’s cost us more than $500 million. ....

At Friday s State of the City program, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler hammered on pro-business, anti-violence themes while promising increased police oversight, saying I believe 2021 will be a year of recovery.

Just months after winning a second term by a relatively low margin, Mayor Ted Wheeler on Friday, March 12, will deliver his State of the City address in a video program online.
