South Australian sees domestic violence list grow by 2,000 names in less than two years


A South Australian watchlist tracking domestic violence abusers has swollen by 2,000 names in 17 months - with one man named by 14 different women.  
The database lists the names of almost 6,300 men, who have been reported by alleged victims who have presented at domestic violence services across the state.
More than 1,700 of the alleged abusers have had multiple victims, while more than 1,800 are alleged to have been involved in multiple incidents.
The shocking figures come after three people were victims of horrific domestic violence murders in South Australia last week, including a nine-month-old baby girl. 
Kobi Shepherdson died after her father Henry plunged the pair off the Whispering Wall dam walkway in the Barossa Valley in an apparent murder-suicide.

It's hard to look at photographs of nine-month-old Kobi Shepherdson.
Those big, blue eyes. The wide smile. The crop of strawberry blonde hair, barely long enough to be gathered up into a little bow. 
It's hard to look because it means thinking about her death.
It means thinking about the fact that her own father was legally allowed to be alone with her that day, despite having a history of domestic violence and having recently faced charges of threatening to kill her.
It means thinking about the fact that he bundled her into a baby carrier, took her to the towering Whispering Wall at Barossa Reservoir, and ended both their lives.

Court bombshell in Kobi tragedy


Now, the
Adelaide Advertiser has revealed Shepherdson appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court just hours before his death and that of his infant child's.
The Torrensville man had been accused of domestic violence related offending in December 2020, with the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court barring him from posting about his family online and coming within 200m of them.
On Thursday, police said several domestic violence reports had been made previously and that court processes were underway - however, just hours before the tragedy, Shepherdson had appeared in court in an attempt to change those two court-imposed conditions.

Henry David Shepherdson was in court attempting to gain permission to contact his family just hours before he killed his baby daughter.
On Wednesday afternoon, South Australian police and emergency services were called to the Whispering Wall reservoir site at Williamstown near the Barossa Valley after witnesses reported seeing a man with an infant in a child carrier.
Both Shepherdson, 38, and his 9-month-old daughter Kobi died at the scene, with the tragedy sending shockwaves throughout Australia.

Shepherdson was further charged with one count of false imprisonment.
The documents allege the offences occurred on December 16 and that the victims were Kobi and her mother.
Shepherdson, they allege, threatened to kill Kobi's mother, assaulted her and also prevented her from leaving the residence in which the offending took place.
They further allege Shepherdson threatened to kill Kobi "knowing that the victim was a child of whom he had custody as a parent or guardian".
At 6.40pm that day, Shepherdson sought bail at the Port Adelaide Police Station, which was refused.
In the written reasons for refusal, SA Police noted Shepherdson had "two prior breaches of bail in WA".

The family of Kobi Shepherdson has spoken out after the nine-month-old was involved in a suspected heartbreaking murder-suicide in South Australia.
Police believe the baby girl was strapped to her father Henry's chest on Wednesday (April 21) afternoon when he jumped off the Whispering Wall in the Barossa Valley north of Adelaide.
Henry died when paramedics arrived and Kobi was unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead.
The baby's aunt, Leisa Shepherdson Casey, has penned a devastating message on Facebook as her family grieves the tragic loss.

"We are completely devastated. My heart is heavy and my tears are dry, robbed in the most cruellest way of my beautiful niece Kobi," she wrote.

Mourners have travelled to the Whispering Wall in the Barossa Valley to pay their respects to baby Kobi Shepherdson, who was killed there on Wednesday.
A mother and her three children were among the many members of the public who have contributed to the growing pile of flowers, teddy bears and cards at the site.
Kobi, nine months, was murdered by her father when he killed himself at the reservoir.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has flagged additional funding will be allocated in the upcoming federal budget for measures to prevent domestic violence after two alleged incidents this week.
He was asked on Thursday what more could be done at a federal level to prevent domestic violence after a Gold Coast mother-of-three was allegedly killed by her former husband.
A South Australian man with a history of domestic violence also jumped from a reservoir while on Wednesday while holding his daughter.
“The events that lead to this is hard to understand, and how people can take these such violent and appalling acts,” Mr Morrison responded.
