African Prince Seeks Bride

Eddie Murphy stars in the 1988 classic “Coming to America.” Murphy plays Akeem the prince of the African nation of Zamunda. The film begins with Akeem being awakened in the usual royal manner on the morning of his twenty first birthday. James Earl Jones portrays Akeem’s father, King Jaffe. Akeem has never left the kingdom and is growing tired of his royal pampering and is wanting to begin doing things for himself. During breakfast, Akeem is informed that today he will meet his bride. 
Upon meeting his bride, Akeem is disappointed to learn that she has been groomed from an early age to cater to his every desire. Akeem wants to be loved for who he is and not what he is. He wants a girl that has a will of her own. Akeem convinces the King that since he has never left the Kingdom, he should go out and experience what the world has to offer.
