Winchendon officials urge town residents to spend a day in the park

WINCHENDON — A local group is urging residents to spend a day in the park this summer.
Members of the Winchendon Community Park Committee have organized monthly events this summer to raise awareness about the fields and trails around Whitney Pond, property that the town acquired a few years ago during a trade with The Winchendon School.
Committee member Tiffany Parkhurst said she thinks the general public might not be aware of the upgrades and improvements that have been made to the park located off Ingleside Road.
“It’s been difficult getting people to know that the park is there because it’s offset from the road — there’s another little road and a field you can see — but nobody ever sees that there’s a park beyond that,” Parkhurst said, adding that a temporary sign had recently been erected to notify the public of the park’s existence. “A lot of people don’t realize that it is a park because a lot of people who end up coming say, ‘I didn’t know this was here and I drive be all the time!’”
