The N.C. Department of Transportation announced that Branch Civil Inc. of Roanoke, Va., was the successful bidder for the U.S. 421 “superstreet” project in Wilkesboro.

Flames from stove burn woman, spread to house

Fire destroyed a two-bedroom, wood-frame home at 937 Winkler Mill Road and left a woman with first- and second-degree burns, said Cricket Fire Chief David Webb.
