Baku organisers keen to host future Sprint Qualifying sessions
15 May, 2021
Azerbaijan Grand Prix organisers would be keen to host Sprint Qualifying sessions in future, if the format is carried over into next season.
The format, which will see traditional qualifying shifted to Friday and a sprint race introduced on Saturday, will be trialled at three race weekends this year, starting with the British Grand Prix in July.
The results of Friday qualifying will set the grid for Sprint Qualifying, which in turn sets the starting order for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
If the new race weekend structure is deemed a success, it could be rolled out more extensively in future seasons.

Portimao Qualifying: Bottas gatecrashes the party
1 May, 2021
Valtteri Bottas took pole position by a margin of 0.007 seconds from Lewis Hamilton in qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao.
With both drivers failing to improve on their second runs in Q3, Bottas’ first flying lap of 1.18.348 was good enough to secure a 17th pole position of his career.
Hamilton was slower in Q3 than in Q2 and will have to settle for a front row start behind his teammate, with Max Verstappen one spot back in third.
Verstappen had his first lap time deleted for exceeding track limits and could only recover to third, with his teammate Sergio Perez set to start alongside him in fourth, a tenth and a half back from the Dutchman.
