NEW DELHI: The environment and forest ministry (MoEFCC) has proposed to do away with a provision in the Forest Conservation Act, which mandates the states to take prior approval from the Centre to lease any forest land for forestry purpose to any private person or agency or authority, which is not controlled by the government. The proposed amendments to the law also seek to expand the scope of forestry use to include ecotourism, safaris and zoos.
