Minister Šinko: "Our knowledge on bees has improved thanks to beekeepers and World Bee Day"

Five years ago today, the United Nations General Assembly declared 20 May World Bee Day. The National Council of the Republic of Slovenia organised an expert meeting entitled "There will be no bees without beekeepers" together with the Slovenian Beekeepers' Association to mark this occasion. Minister Irena Šinko attended the event. Certificates of recognition were awarded and the national champion in honey was crowned on the margins of the expert meeting.

Slovenia beekeeping tradition gets UN world heritage status

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — Slovenia is keeping its bee buzz on a roll. After Slovenia clinched United Nations support for establishing a World Bee Day in 2018, authorities said Thursday the small European nation's beekeeping tradition is being added to the U.N.'s list of cultural heritage that humanity should preserve.

Slovenia beekeeping tradition gets UN world heritage status

Slovenia is keeping its bee buzz on a roll. After clinching United Nations support for its proposal to establish a World Bee Day in 2018, the small European nation’s tradition in beekeeping is now being added to the U.N.’s list of intangible cultural heritage as a cherished tradition to be preserved by humanity. UNESCO experts gathering in Morocco this week decided that Slovenia’s entry - Beekeeping in Slovenia, a Way of Life - deserves U.N. recognition as an example of an important cultural tradition, Slovenia’s Ministry of Culture said on Thursday.
