MY father, a public school teacher in Manila, knew what he had to do to raise five boys in a depressed urban community. The affordable cultural experience was in museums, exhibits and the zoo. I did not consider the experience of value then. I knew not that it helps shape how we human beings interact with the Earth's other creatures.
