TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A judge refused to reduce the $1 million bond for a man charged in the 2016 killings of a man, woman and an unborn child at a Topeka apartment complex.
Shawnee County District Judge Bill Ossmann rejected Yanez Sanford’s request for his bond to be reduced to $500,000 on Friday. and that he be allowed to be released on house arrest in Kansas City, Missouri, where his family lives.
Ossmann said $1 million bonds are typical in murder cases, the Topeka Capital Journal reports.
Ossmann also rejected a motion to have Sanford moved to a different jail for his safety because there was no evidence that he was in danger in the Shawnee County facility.

The thirty-eight-year-old Sanford has been charged with the shooting deaths of 23-year-old Dominique Ray, 20-year-old Camrah Trotter and her unborn child.

A Shawnee County District Court judge on Friday issued two rulings calling for Yanez Sanford, shown here, to continue to be held on a $1 million bond in the Shawnee County Jail.
Shawnee County District Judge Bill Ossmann on Friday denied death penalty case defendant Yanez Sanford's request that he be put on house arrest in Kansas City, Mo., noting that Sanford fought extradition to Kansas the last time he lived in that city. 
During a hearing held using Zoom, Ossmann issued two rulings calling for Sanford to continue to be held in the Shawnee County Jail on a $1 million bond.
