dgau@marshallindependent.com COTTONWOOD Â One young person died and five more were injured in separate accidents reported over the weekend in Lyon and Yellow Medicine Counties, area law enforcement said. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an ATV crash reported Saturday afternoon in Stanley Township. The operator of the ATV was identified as Parker Viaene of rural Cottonwood. Viaene was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash, the Sheriff’s Office said. A total of five young men were also injured at a bonfire in rural Granite Falls over the weekend, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office said. Three of the injured people, ages 18, 20 and 20, were airlifted for burn treatment. ....

Of the cumulative number of cases, 35,595 of them are health care workers. There were three additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, bringing the cumulative statewide total to 6,098. Most of the deaths, 3,876, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,055 of the deaths were 70 years or older. Reporter MARSHALL Â Two more Lyon County residents have died of COVID-19, the Minnesota Department of Health said Thursday. The MDH reported two people, both in their 80s, have died. The report brings the total of COVID deaths among Lyon County residents to 26. There have also been new deaths reported in Redwood, Renville and Yellow Medicine Counties, the MDH said. The reported deaths included a Redwood County resident in their 90s, a Renville County resident in their 90s, and a Yellow Medicine County resident in their 80s. Statewide, a total of 2,355 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported Thursday, and a total of 83 deaths. Minnesota has had more than 389,000 confirmed cases and 4,658 deaths since the start of the pandemic. ....
