State Engineer Brandon Gebhart has announced that priority water administration in the Tongue River Basin under the Yellowstone River Compact has been lifted. Gebhart made the announcement after receiving a letter from the State of Montana indicating the call was being lifted due to the improved
The call could potentially disrupt water storage reservoirs in the Big Horn Mountains designed for irrigation and municipal water use for the City of Sheridan. However, the current call may be lifted after recent snows, rain, and increased temperatures increase river flows and fill the reservoir. More precipitation is also forecast for the area in the near future.
Wyoming State Engineer Brandon Gebhart announced that on April 1st, 2022, Montana placed a call under Article V(A) of the Yellowstone River Compact to fill the Tongue River Reservoir, located about 5-10 miles northeast of Decker. As a result, priority administration is in effect on post-1950 wate
