Newcastle ISD is working with Young County on plans to implement a School Resource Officer (SRO) as mandated by House Bill 3 (HB3). The proposal by NISD is to commission the SRO through the Young County Sheriff’s Office, which would make it a full-time position. A major point regarding the position is whether the school district or the county would be responsible for the new SRO’s salary and benefits.
The Humane Society of Young County is one of over 500 animal welfare organizations across the country which are requesting support in the month of August through the online effort Clear the Shelters. Shelters could also receive weekly matching funds given during the fundraising event.
The city of Graham is working through its budget discussions to restructure the general fund budget, with four departments being moved into separate funds. The Graham Municipal Airport, Young County Arena, Library of Graham and Convention and Visitors Bureau will be transferred into separate special purpose funds, accounting for a $1.7 million shift in the proposed budget and an inevitable decrease in the general fund. City Manager Eric Garretty said when he saw a restructuring was required, he requested it be done all in one year.
Young County Treasurer Kathy Mishler announced Monday that she would be stepping down from her position, effective immediately. According to the Texas Association of Counties, the treasurer receives and deposits all county revenues, acts as a chief liaison between the county and banks, disburses funds upon the order of the commissioners court, can prepare payroll and have other various roles.
The nonprofit organization 2INgage has a goal of meeting the needs of Texas children and families by providing case management, foster care placement and support services in a 30-county area, including Young County. The organization was selected by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and is led by the Texas Family Initiative and supported by local providers in North Texas. Through a contract with the state, the organization is the Community-Based Care (CBC) contractor in Region 2.
