Please reflect on Roe v. Wade | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan. 22 marks the anniversary of the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision. I pray that everyone, no matter what side of the issue they are on, take time to think about the impact that decision has had on pregnant women, fathers, grandparents and our American society. I think that we can all agree that that decision is a society-changing issue. Maybe after deep contemplation with an open mind you may realize that the United States Supreme Court decision did not help build a culture of life which recognizes the dignity and value of every life including those in the womb.

Trump must be impeached | News, Sports, Jobs

Contributing Writer To Sen. Grassley, I am writing today to plead with you to please hold Donald Trump accountable by supporting impeachment. He has tried to throw democracy “under the bus” so that he can stay in power, with his false claims of an illegal election. You have to know that there is not one iota of proof of any election wrongdoing. Even your Republican governors and election officials have deemed these election proceedings as fair and just. Contributing Writer Shame on the comments in the T-R Jan. 11 editorial “Worst day for Trump, Trumpists” by syndicated writer Pat Buchanan , thoughts by Rep. Dean Fisher on Jan. 12 and the Jan. 13 letter “Case of riotous chaos “ by Richard Hill of Marshalltown. Pat never mentioned the death of the policeman nor of the 80 plus who were injured. He shamefully claimed it was “malicious hyperbole, establishment propaganda” to compare the insurrection to 9/11 or to the British to burning the capital during the War of 1812. Well folks, it was worse than that. I agree with former governor...

People need to be held accountable | News, Sports, Jobs

Contributing Writer After four years of playing Santa Claus with trillions in tax giveaways and trillions more spent on propping up farmers and corporations, you can hear Republicans already chanting “We have to cut back on spending. The debt is getting too big. We can’t leave a debt for our grandchildren.” After four years of putting up with Trump’s lies, his corruption, trying to conduct a coup by overturning the election, and finally, with Trump orchestrating a seditious insurrection, Republicans like Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley are suggesting, “We have to move on, look forwa...

Country before party | News, Sports, Jobs - Times Republican

Contributing Writer I would like to join Iowa Democratic Minority Leader Todd Prichard in calling for all the Iowa Lawmakers to join together in unity to heal our state. Over 4,100 are Iowans dead out of 300,000 diagnosed cases of COVID-19, but the Iowa Legislature has no mask mandate. Governor Reynolds did not acknowledge Trump’s defeat in November until this month. State Representative Dean Fisher from Tama County remarked on his Facebook page, “We will survive. Remember our side has the guns, the other side doesn’t know which bathroom to use.” After five people died at the insurrec...
