On the first anniversary of the death of volleyball stalwart Jonathan Chetcuti at 41, his loved ones have launched a grant for elite athletes that aims to pass on his passion for sports – and life in general.
Dubbed the Jonathan Chetcuti Program, the sponsorship project is the brainchild of his wife Elaine Bonello and business partner and close buddy Jonathan Dalli, who immediately knew, in that time of immense pain, that they wanted to carry on the popular man’s legacy.
Overwhelmed by emotions at the loss of someone so pivotal in both their lives, they took a backseat to settle into their new reality until a childhood friend of Chetcuti’s, Gege Gatt, stepped in to organise their thoughts. ....

Maltese Olympic Committee launches Youth Development Scheme

The Maltese Olympic Committee has launched the Youth Development Scheme.
Previously known as the Youth Elite Scheme, the revised programme continues to build on the previous programme and now includes six categories for athletes born between 2004 and 2009 as well as a category for athletes aged 18+.
The selection criteria is based on the projected performance level of each nominated athlete and for which input of the athlete’s coach and affiliated federation was taken into account. All MOC affiliated federations and association were invited to submit their nominations.
A selection committee, set up by the MOC, vetted all nominations. Coaches were required to fill in assessments. ....

Young Athletes Will Benefit From Funding & Several Benefits In This New Youth Development Scheme

Calling all young athletes! The Maltese Olympic Committee has announced the recent launch of their new Youth Development Scheme, which was previously known as the Youth Elite Scheme.

Basically, the revised scheme keeps building on the previous scheme and now includes 6 categories for athletes born between 2004 and 2009, and a separate category for athletes aged 18+.

The selection criteria are based on the athletes’ estimated performance level, and for which any input of the athlete’s coach and associated Federation were taken into account. All MOC-affiliated Federations and Association were invited to submit their nominations, which were then vetted by a selection Committee set up by the MOC. ....
