The Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhood’s (OSHN) Youth Implementation Team and other organizations serving the city’s youth, announced today Louisville’s participation in National Youth Violence Prevention Week (NYVPW), an initiative designed to raise awareness about youth violence and highlight prevention strategies involving youth, parents, teachers, school personnel and community members.

TELL ME THIS IS A RELATIVELY QUIET AREA INTERRUPTED BY YET. ANOTHER ACT OF GUN VIOLENCE IN LOUISVILLE. YOU HAVE SOMETHING HAPPEN OUT THERE ON THAT BLOCK WHEN I KNOW HOW INVESTED THE NEIGHBORS ARE IN MAKING THAT A SAFE PLACE A TEENAGE BOY IS THE LATEST VICTIM OF LOUISVILLE’S GUN VIOLENCE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AFTER HE WAS BROUGHT ON TRUMPET WAY NEAR CANE RUN ROAD METRO COUNCILWOMAN JESSICA GREEN REPRESENTS THE AREA AND SAYS, IT’S PAINFUL THAT IT HAPPENED DURING A WEEK DEDICATED TO PREVENTING YOUTH VIOLENCE IN THE CITY A YOUNG PERSON WHO HAD A PROMISING FUTURE A YOUNG PERSON. NO MATTER WHAT THE AGE IS IT’S INCUMBENT UPON US TO FIND THE PERSONS OF RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE AND ALSO THE COMMUNITY MANY COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS ARE DEVELOPING SOLUTIONS TO THE VIOLENT OUTCOMES. VIOLENCE PREVENT TELL ME THE REAL WORK BEGINS WITH LESS TALK MORE. ACTION AND INVOLVING YOUTH IN DECISIONS BEING MADE ABOUT THEIR LIVES. THAT’S NOT JUST THE SEAT AT THE TABLE. THAT’S THE SEAT AT THE TABLE WITH THE MICROPHONE AND EARS LISTENING TO THEM. THESE ARE REAL LIVES BEING DEVASTATED BY THESE PREVENTABLE ISSUES WITH RESOURCES LIKE J PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH AND COMMUNITY CENTERS REOPENING ADVOCATES TANGIBLE SOLUTIONS TO COMBAT CRIME ARE IN PLACE, BUT MORE CAN ALWAYS BE DONE IN THE CITY SHOULD NOT BE DISCOURAGED THERE BUT T
