The researches are focusing on stimulating humans’ sense of smell to prevent conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease associated with memory problems. The olfactory system, or sense of smell, is known to be dysfunctional in the early stages of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. It is also shown that proper olfactory function can play a key role in regaining consciousness after brain injuries.
