<p>Infertility affects around 48 million couples worldwide. Now, researchers in China have identified a potential cause. The researchers mimicked premature ovarian insufficiency – a condition causing infertility before the age of 40 – in mice. The eggs of these mice had problems with their mitochondria, the powerhouses of the cell. The study, published in Development, suggests mitochondria are a promising target for future infertility studies.</p>
