New chain link fences with plastic green panels were set up Monday and Tuesday on both ends of an almost quarter-mile-long paved area behind a row of homes at Beach Drive in Aptos, close to where it meets the roundabout and brick esplanade.
"Abandoning landline service to county residents without a replacement service is unacceptable," the Editorial Board writes. "Commissioners need to ensure people don’t have to face next winter wondering if they’ll be able to reach the outside world once the power, as it so often does, goes out."
"This review has provided an opportunity to consider how best to conduct the work of county commissions efficiently, to preserve and use human and financial resources more productively and to achieve greater public participation in commission and other work of the county," said Assistant County Administrative Officer Nicole Coburn. "Some of these commissions are going to be transitioning to other methods of public engagement and input."
Reading Letters to the Editor regarding the 1st District supervisor’s race is like deja vu all over again. Opponents of Manu Koenig cite “big money,” but they appear to be uninformed (or possibly misinformed) that the maximum contribution to any county candidate is $525. "Measure N is not just a bond; it is a lifeline for our community’s health and an investment in future generations," write Zach Friend, Felipe Hernandez, Luis Alejo, Glenn Church and Vanessa Quiroz-Carter in a Guest Commentary. "As we approach the election, we are faced with the opportunity to fortify and expand the capabilities of Watsonville Community Hospital, solidifying our dedication to a future where quality health care is a cornerstone of our local community and ensuring that our friends, families and neighbors have access to the care they deserve for decades to come."

Last week Manu won the endorsement of the Mid-County Democrats, the group which essentially covers the 1st District. And by the way, he’s also endorsed by Bruce McPherson, Zach Friend, and Sheriff […]
"In 2020, the Sentinel backed the incumbent in the District 1 election for the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors," writes the Editorial Board. "But a relatively unknown challenger, Manu Koenig, defeated incumbent John Leopold. Now, four years later, Koenig finds himself as the lone incumbent on the March 5 primary ballot."
Ready or not, election season is upon us. For the Sentinel Editorial Board, that means extended interview sessions with candidates for local offices, along with public officials’ advocating for new taxes, or advocates for and against a Santa Cruz measure that could constrain future housing development.
