Zachary Aaron Kidd, 36, was granted release from jail on Wednesday to receive treatment at an inpatient facility.
Kidd was arrested and booked into jail on Feb. 1 after notifying police of an “active bomb threat” at the 1st District Courthouse. He was charged with a single count of second-degree threat of terrorism; by the letter of the law, he could face 1-15 years in the Utah State Prison if convicted.
During his appearance in 1st District Court, defense counsel told the court Kidd had a spot available at a treatment facility. Due to COVID-19 restrictions at the facility, attorney Herm Olsen told the court Kidd would have to stay at a hotel for a week before being admitted. ....

Man arrested after allegedly telling police he was trying to stop bomb threat at Logan courthouse


“I am not the threat,” he told police, “I’m the warning.”
The man then told police the bomb “didn’t exist yet,” but a real threat did exist due to the “two judges playing dirty.” However, police wrote the man continued to repeat that there was an active bomb threat. The man specifically identified one judge to police and claimed that judge needed to die.
Police asked again if there was a bomb in the car and the man said, “no.” He was then asked if there was a bomb in the actual courthouse, and the man said, “I don’t know.” ....

LOGAN A man was arrested over the weekend after police say he drove his car up to the front doors of the 1st District Courthouse in Logan and made a bomb threat.
Logan police were initially called to a Smith’s Food and Drug store about 10:30 p.m. Sunday on a report of a man acting strangely and “mumbling about a bomb threat at the courthouse.”
Officers found Zachary Aaron Kidd, 35, who exclaimed, “There is an active bomb threat on the courthouse, there are two judges trying to play dirty,” according to a police affidavit. ....
