Bethany N. Jordan, 23, Norfolk, VA

Bethany N. Jordan, 23, of Norfolk, VA passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was born in Urbana, IL on December 26, 1999 the daughter of James Bradley and Jayne (Wiseman) Jordan. Bethany grew up traveling with her family to duty stations all over the country, including Illinois, California, Alaska and North Carolina while her dad served 25 years in the U.S. Marine Corp. After his retirement, they moved to Laredo, TX, where she graduated high school from Texas Connections Academy. Bethany began her Naval career on February 26, 2019, when she left for RTC Great Lakes, graduating from Basic Training in May 2019. She then reported to Pensacola, FL to attend Aviation Structural Mechanic (AM) "A" school. After completing "A" school she was assigned to the Assault Craft Unit Four, where she worked in the AirFrame shop. Bethany had earned the rank of AM2 (Aircraft Structural Mechanic Second Class). While in the Navy, Bethany set the example for her peers and subordinates alike, striving to meet all qualifications and become a valued team member not only in her shop, but throughout the command. Her dedication to success earned her Bluejacket of the Quarter, 3rd Quarter for FY 2021, and being ranked #1 of 28 Sailors in her peer group. She was nominated and selected as the All Hands Association Secretary, contributing to command morale and has earned the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for her superior performance at Assault Craft Unit FOUR. She was a country girl at heart and loved being outdoors, whether it was hiking, going to the beach, riding her motorcycle or being around horses. As a young child she participated in rodeo camps, and would even ride a bull. She had no fears. Bethany also loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She would often sing at church and even sang the National Anthem at several rodeos and even once prior to a Southern Illinois Miners baseball game in Marion. Bethany is survived by her parents, James Bradley and Jayne Jordan of Northport, AL; siblings, James Alan Jordan of Beaumont, CA and Tiffany (Andrew) Manley of Banning, CA; aunts, Julie (Rex) Johnson and Jennifer Agger; uncles, Mike (Janice) Wiseman and Allen (Linda) Jordan; and cousins, Mandy Parker, Jay Wiseman, Emily Agger, Wesley Jordan and Zane Jordan. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jerry and JoAnn Wiseman and Gary and Sylvia Jordan. Funeral services for Bethany Jordan, 23, of Norfolk, VA will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at First Christian Church in Carmi. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Albion, IL with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bethany's memory to Southern Illinois Christian Service Camp and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home,. 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821 who is in charge of arrangements.
