Mississauga firefighters are buying 500 smoke alarms for city residents who can t afford to buy the life-saving devices themselves. Local restaurateur donating 60 meals to for International Nurses Day

Orangeville Firehouse Subs wants to help support local frontline workers with a nice lunch.
On Wednesday, the restaurant is donating a total of 60 boxed lunches to the nursing staff at local nursing homes.
Franchisee Jason Edgar says he is excited to celebrate.
Drop-offs will be done at Chartwell Retirement Home, Avalon Retirement Home, Bethsaida Retirement Home and Lord Center Retirement Home.
These meal donations will be made in partnership with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada through their dedicated COVID-19 Disaster Relief Fund.
Wednesday is also International Nurses Day. ....

Hamilton paramedics to add bike unit to response team in 2021

The Hamilton Paramedic Service (HPS) will add a bike unit to its rapid response team in the spring of 2021, according to the city.
The unit is expected to provide care in difficult-to-reach areas of Hamilton prior to the arrival of emergency vehicles. Large community events, as well as in wooded areas along the city s many trails, are where the units will be deployed.
Currently, the HPS has 66 emergency vehicles operating out of 20 stations with 350 front-line paramedics.
A $20,000 grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada will provide a kickstart for the new bike unit, according to the HPS. ....
