WHEN my daughter at the age of 24, and while staying with us on Skye, made the decision to end her life – she was suffering from anorexia and other problems – by chance I found her tucked away in her bedroom one afternoon. Surrounded by pill packets and some alcohol she had left a note saying that she was sorry but she could not cope with life any longer. She wanted peace.
In great distress I summoned help and she was taken away to hospital where resuscitation processes were set up and her deep unconsciousness abated. When I saw her later that day she was horrified and bewildered that she was still alive and would have to go on suffering. I felt as if I had committed an awful crime by preventing her desired death. ....

Six Scottish parliamentary elections have now been held since the creation of the Scottish Parliament in 1999.
In the past two elections, the SNP has fallen just short of the 65 seats needed for a majority – after winning 69 in the 2011 election.
Prior to this, a coalition between Labour and the Liberal Democrats made up the government.
The system for Scottish elections is the Additional Member System (AMS), where voters are given two votes. The first vote is for constituency – where single MSPs are elected by first-past-the post. The second is for region seats, where seven MSPs are elected by closed list. ....

While Labour did well in Wales and the Tories in England, the SNP were the clear winners in Scotland
WHILE the Alba Party received a clear message from voters and got no MSPs returned, did they cost the SNP a majority? I would suggest they did!
Had the list Alba Party votes come to the SNP, there may have been an increase in the SNP’s list members and the ultimate goal of 65 MSPs achieved.
But let’s look at and analyse Super Thursday, where there was more than one clear winner in Scotland, because the turnout here in Scotland was the largest for a Holyrood election. Across the UK, the winners were Labour in Wales, the Tories in England and SNP in Scotland. ....
