WATERTOWN â The portable steam engine, the paper bag, the safety pin and the Little Trees that dangle from rear-view mirrors â all Watertown inventions celebrated in a community mural taking shape this week. Designed by Potsdam artist Liza L. Paige, âThe Inventions of Watertownâ is the first commission for the Riverwalk Art Project, a multi-year initiative headed by the Watertown Downtown Business Association. The goal: breathe colorful life into Veteransâ Memorial Riverwalk along the Black River, and propel the city to become a north country cultural center. âThis is only the beginning,â DBA President Joseph A. Wessner said of âThe Inventions of Watertown.â ....
WATERTOWN â A new arts organization for the area will host a virtual kickoff on Saturday. HarmoNNY hopes to foster musical and other creative talents in order to enrich the community through education, participation, appreciation and enjoyment of the performing arts. The organizationâs launch party begins at 7 p.m. Saturday over Facebook Live. Joseph S. Foy, president of the board of HarmoNNY, said he was inspired to create the organization in 2019 after he attended a concert at the Homer Center for the Arts in Cortland County. About two decades ago, the Homer arts group saved the old First Baptist Church of Homer building by making it into the organizationâs headquarters and concert venue. ....
