Each May, the Administration for Community Living leads the celebration of Older Americans Month. This year’s theme is Communities of Strength, recognizing the important role older adults play in fostering the connection and engagement that build strong, resilient communities.
In tough times, communities find strength in people and people find strength in their communities. In the past year, we’ve seen this time and again in Fulton County, as friends, neighbors, and businesses have found new ways to support each other.
In our community, older adults are a key source of this strength. Through their experiences, successes, and difficulties, they have built resilience that helps them to face new challenges. When communities tap into this, they become stronger too. ....

JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Office for Aging/Youth was recently informed it received a $27,177 federal grant, nearly half of which will go toward equipment for the senior meals program.
OFA Director-Andrea Fettinger discussed the grant at a recent meeting of the Board of Supervisors’ Human Services Committee at the County Office Building.
The committee voted to accept $27,177 in federal Consolidated Appropriations Act funds and amend the OFA’s budget for this year. The full board will vote on final acceptance May 10. ....

Metro Atlanta Organizations Seek to Help 300 People Expunge Misdemeanor Records by Juneteenth
Only days remain for Georgians in Fulton County to apply to have their records of old nonviolent offenses removed in conjunction with a Juneteenth record restriction/expungement summit. Atlanta is Fulton’s county seat.
Since April 19 the Fulton County Office of Solicitor General, along with The Temple, Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Georgia Justice Project and the Martin Luther King Sr. Community Resources Collaborative have collected applications in hopes of helping 300 individuals with misdemeanor strikes against them conceal those criminal history records from public view (such records will remain available to law enforcement agencies). The deadline to apply is April 30. ....

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Robert G. Stegel, 71, of Gloversville, NY, on Friday, April 16, 2021.
Born September 29, 1949, to Joseph and Jennie Stegel in Schenectady, NY. He was predeceased by his older sister, Marilyn Stegel; younger brother, Mark Stegel; and leaves behind a family who cherished him to include his two daughters, Kari (Dave) Gent and Amber Stegel; older brother, Joseph Stegel; younger sister, Marlene Nellis; ex-wife, Christine Stegel; and a myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends “family of the heart” who will miss him dearly.
Growing up he played baseball and was being scouted by the minor league when his life took an unexpected turn following a car accident which left him unable to continue playing. He started his post-high school education at FMCC and then transferred to the College of St. Rose, majoring in music with a focus on Barber Shop and was one of the first male students to graduate from t ....

ATLANTA - A group is seeking to help at least 300 people clear non-violent offenses off their misdemeanor records before June 19.
The Fulton County Office of Solicitor-General in conjunction with The Temple, Ebenezer Baptist Church, The Georgia Justice Project, and The Martin L. King Sr. Collaborative will be hosting a Juneteenth Record Restriction/Expungement Summit.
Juneteenth has long been celebrated as the time when the Word of Freedom finally reached the most distant and long-suffering enslaved people in America. It is in that tradition and spirit of renewed hope, love, and opportunity this group has come together to put on this summit. ....
