Fenix Youth Project to host first ever Sneaker Gala

The Fenix Youth Project is hosting it’s first ever Sneaker Gala this August.
The organization says the idea came from the annual Atlanta Sneaker Ball event and says to come dressed up as if you were going to prom and help give back to homeless youth.
For those who are under the age of 25, tickets will be $20.
Proceeds will help fund their youth drop-in center as well as their transitional housing program.
The organization says they’re excited to bring this new fun event to the eastern shore and encourage all to come support. “We’re excited to bring this new event to the eastern shore. We wanted to do something different and fun that involved the youth as well as young adults and give them the opportunity to get involved in philanthropy and starting a way to give back to their community,” said Executive Director of the Fenix Youth Project’s Amber Green. ....

SALISBURY, Md. – A spot where a controversial plaque dedicated to the memory of a Confederate General once stood, and the place where violent racial lynching’s took place is now home to a much different type of remembrance.
Over 90 years ago next to the Wicomico County Courthouse, a black man was lynched. On Saturday, his life and the life of the other victims of lynching in Salisbury were memorialized in a ceremony.
Community members, county officials, family members and activists gathered at Tidalhealth Saturday afternoon. They began their walk on the same path some of the victims took, as they were dragged to their violent deaths. However, descendants of the lynching victims tell us, this is more than just a horrific event being memorialized. “It is healing to see the community come together, all races all ages to acknowledge what happened,” says Jeannie Jones, a descendant of lynching victim Matthew Williams. ....

Fenix Youth Project officials excited for new drop-in center

SALISBURY, Md. – The Fenix youth project is finally welcoming the community to their new drop-in location in Salisbury.
According to program officials, they acquired the youth drop in center in July but due to the pandemic, they weren’t able to welcome community members when they officially opened in November.
However now they are launching new programs and services for the youth in Maryland. The center will be a resource for youth ages 13 through 24 who are experiencing a housing crisis, homelessness or who just need basic resources.
Through all their efforts, officials with the Fenix youth project say, the really want to address everything the youth has dealt with in the past year. “Of course we’re excited to do outreach and do our new program, but we’re also having the real conversation of what is going to be the consequence of all of these isolations with young peopl ....
